If Only Five Songs

When it comes to the top five lists, I spend way too much time over-analyzing things. For this reason, indecisiveness is today's challenger (honestly, it should be every day's challenger). This list was no different and took some executive decision making to finally complete, but this is how I discovered my top five favorite songs (as of right now).

I started this topic with so many questions.

"Top five of all time?"

"Should I do a particular genre?"

"Do theme songs count?"

"How do I choose just five?"

I finally decided that it would be easier to list songs based on the length of time that I've listened to it, the ability to listen to it on repeat, and how the song makes me feel overall regardless of genre or decade. With that, let's drop the list!

Lupe Fiasco's "Lamborghini Angels" was the first song that popped into my mind when I saw the topic. I've played this song countless times, from long trips on the road to jump-starting my creativity; it is still as fresh as the day I first heard it. A beat that fuels my energy accompanied by Lupe's typically cryptic lyrics continues to win me over with every play.

Next up is "Real Folk Blues" by The Seatbelts. Not only is the song attached to an iconic anime (Cowboy Bebop), but it also has this vibe that puts me in a place where I can get lost in my thoughts. A song that invokes feelings of nostalgia and encourages lazy days.

When I hear Nina Simone's powerful, beautiful voice, I can't help but become invested, and the song "Feeling Good" is so captivating that I had to throw it on the list. Every time her words reach my ears, I feel like I knew just how she felt.

I remember listening to the album "For The Cool in You" in my walkman in its entirety most of my freshman through sophomore years in high school. I loved old school tracks back then, especially RnB (I still do honestly), and that album had absolute bangers. My favorite track, from that particular album, has to be "When Can I See You Again." I loved the emotion behind that song and will vibe with it any time it pops up on a playlist.

Alright, so the last song is a song I came across while shopping. I don't remember the store, might have been Hot Topic or something, but I remember stopping what I was doing and immediately pulling up the Soundhound app on my phone to find it. Hozier's "Arsonist's Lullaby" is probably my favorite song right now. The song describes key points of my life and how I felt during those times. It really captures what goes on in my mind into a soulful ballad. So there you have it, top five favorite songs of all time! (as of right now.)
